I has been tired of the cheap OBD readers and wanted something much better. I also wanted something I could read the ABS system with. The Innova 3160 does the trick. It’s easy to use and understand. I like the way it prompts you to get what you need. It has an excellent screen with the exact info you have to make repairs. It’s evident that they consulted with a fix tech when they intended it. I have not tried to up date it from the computer as still, but it has all the needed things and info with it to do so. On the down side, it does not have an explanation for all the maker codes, particularly the ABS codes. I found that I’m going to their website quite frequently to get the expanation. The web site is good and useful though. I really like it. The worst thing is the CHEAP carrying case. The unit will not fit into it with the cable attached. That means that you’re generally removing and replacing the cable. I am sure that is not good on the connection. Throw the case away and purchase something better that you may keep the scanner, instruction book, and other materials in. It is hard to believe a company like this could offer such a good instrument and supply it in this case. Never the less, it is a great scanner and well worth the money just figure a little extra for another case!

I’m a dealer mechanic at a Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer and I bought this as a backup to the shop provided factory scan tools which I can never find. I expected a bit more but for a couple hundred bucks I guess you can not ask for much. The 1st car I used it on the fault code was a generic number that I could find zero info on how to diagnose and I ended up having to find the factory scan tool. The car was a Sprinter van so it is a Mercedes established car. Strike one. On the next not many vehicles I looked at, I brought both the factory scanner and the Innova and checked the codes with both. For straight Chrysler engine codes it works ok. It only works on a restricted range of abs codes based on the year. So far I am not impressed. It is good for clearing faults and looking at a basic data stream but it can not replace a real scan tool. If you want something to check codes at your house or clear codes at work this tool is good. If you want a scan tool you are going to have to use up the money.

From the early 80’s on I have had scan tools.

Older ones you had to count the check engine light flashes to get the code number still have mine for ford / gm / chrysler. I went as low as to use a paper clip to get the codes.

Then I started with my 1st OBDII and it was good had to look the code description up in a book

Now with the CAN OBDII and error code description on screen it’s a must have for anybody.

This model with the ABS is a nice little touch also.

Even if you do not fix the car yourself, knowing the code & description before going to a garage lets you to know what is wrong and if they’re telling you the truth or not.

Leaving the gas cap off after a fill up and having the check engine light come on can cost over 70 bucks to get the car computer reset, only some seconds to reset with this. Some newer cars / vans do not automatically reset like the older models cars did

Best of all, after you fix your car being able to use the OBDII tester to verify the fix is nice.

A could say a must have for beginner / hobbiest / professional.
